Ingredients

Yield:One drink
  • 2 ounces rye whiskey

  • ½ ounce Punt e Mes or other sweet vermouth

  • ¼ to ½ ounce maraschino liqueur

    Pour ingredients into a shaker with a generous handful of ice. Stir briskly until well chilled. Strain into a cocktail glass and serve.

I should have mentioned that since this Manhattan variant does not call for Angostura bitters, you should definitely be using Punt e Mes, which has a slight underlying bitterness, and NOT some other sweet vermouth.

I find that 1/4 oz. of Luxardo Maraschino liqueur is just the right amount.

Made this with Basil Hayden bourbon (not rye) and it was delicious.

This is a wonderful cocktail. The punt e meds and luxardo cherry juice is a yummy addition to the whiskey.
