Ingredients

Yield:3 dozen cookies
  • Vegetable oil for baking sheets

  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons sifted all-purpose flour

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup butter, softened

  • ⅓ cup firmly packed brown sugar

  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 ½ teaspoons very hot water

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Preparation

  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease baking sheets.

  2. Step 2

    Sift together flour, baking soda and salt onto waxed paper.

  3. Step 3

    Beat butter, sugars and egg in large bowl with an electric mixer until fluffy, about 3 minutes. Beat in hot water and vanilla. Gradually beat in flour mixture until blended and smooth. Stir in chocolate chips.

  4. Step 4

    Drop dough by well-rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets. Bake 10 minutes, or until golden.

  5. Step 5

    Cool on sheet on wire rack for 1 minute. Remove to wire rack to cool completely.
