This apple-centric twist on the Negroni comes from the bartender Jacques Bezuidenhout. He created it for the opening gala of the Manhattan Cocktail Classic, a bygone cocktail convention, and thus had the Big Apple on his mind. Wanting the drink to speak its native language, Mr. Bezuidenhout gave it the Italian word for apple. Robert Simonson

Ingredients

Yield:1 drink
  • 1 ½ ounces Calvados

  • 1 ounce Campari

  • ¾ ounce Cocchi Vermouth di Torino

  • ½ ounce oloroso sherry, preferably Lustau

  • Orange twist

  • Apple slice

Preparation

  1. Step 1

    Combine all liquid ingredients with ice in a mixing glass and stir until chilled, about 30 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Squeeze orange twist over drink and discard. Garnish with an apple slice.
