Ingredients

Yield:12 buns
  • 2 tablespoons honey

  • 4 tablespoons melted butter

  • 3 ½ cups flour

  • 1 ¼ cup brown sugar

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1 tablespoon anise

  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1 egg

  • 1 large bottle Guinness Stout

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1 cup seedless raisins

  • 1 cup candied fruit peel, optional

Preparation

  1. Step 1

    Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9-by-13-inch baking pan. Mix the melted butter and the honey together.

  2. Step 2

    In a large mixing bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients. In another bowl, combine the egg, Guinness Stout and vanilla. Pour the egg mixture into the center of the dry ingredients, and mix well, while adding half of the honey and butter mix. Add the raisins and mix until incorporated.

  3. Step 3

    Pinch off pieces of the dough approximately the size of lemons and roll into smooth balls. Evenly space the buns in the greased baking pan, and place in the oven for 1 hour. Remove from the oven, and brush with the remaining honey butter mixture. Cool and serve.
