Yield:24 crostini
  • 1 baguette cut into ½-inch diagonal slices (or 8 slices country-style bread cut into 3-by-3-inch slices ½-inch thick)

  • Dijon mustard

  • ¼ pound good-quality cheddar cheese

  • Cayenne pepper

Preparation

  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Bake the slices of bread until lightly browned (about 10 minutes). The slices may be toasted under a broiler or over a grill instead.

  2. Step 2

    Preheat broiler. Spread the slices with mustard, topped with slices of cheddar cheese and sprinkle with cayenne. Brown under the broiler and arrange on a serving platter.
