  • ¾cup sugar
  • 2teaspoons dried thyme
  • 1pound dried figs, stemmed

  1. Step 1

    Place the water, honey, sugar and thyme in a large saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and add the figs. Cook until figs are softened, about 10 minutes. Remove the figs to a bowl with a slotted spoon. Increase the heat and reduce the liquid to 1 cup. Let cool slightly and pour the liquid over the figs. Serve at room temperature.

The figs didn't gather as much moisture as I wanted, and tasted a little funny at the end. I replaced cinnamon for thyme!

This was a big hit as a "light" dessert after a moussaka dinner. My only issue is that the syrup got extremely thick as it cooled, and the figs were not as tender as I had hoped. Next time I will chop the figs into pieces (not too small) and not cook the liquid as long at the end.
