  • 3 ounces rye whiskey, preferably unaged like Dad’s Hat

  • 1 ounce maraschino liqueur

  • 1 ½ ounces lime juice

  • 1 ounce simple syrup

  • Dash grapefruit bitters

  • Lime wedges, for garnish

  1. Step 1

    Shake all ingredients except lime wedges in a cocktail shaker with ice.

  2. Step 2

    Strain into two old-fashioned glasses filled with ice. Garnish with lime wedges.

Had these as a pre-dinner cocktail for a supper club I hosted. They were easy drinking, but potent. Went well with the rye and gave me a use for the large bottle maraschino liqueur I had from making Aviations. Have made these multiple times now!

My new favorite, for now. I also used super fine or bakers sugar, in lieu of, simple syrup, but I had to guess at the equivalency. Any suggestions how to equate super fine sugar to simple syrup would be appreciated since this would come in handy in other applications as well. I also used orange bitters because that’s what I have.

Yummy and potent! Made ours with Bulleit rye.

This was so incredibly sweet it could not be consumed. The dominant flavor was Karo syrup. I thought maybe there was a typo and it was supposed to be maraschino liqueur OR simple syrup. I can imagine a combination of rye, maraschino and lime could be nice but those flavors were completely overwhelmed by the sweetness.
